Mobile games have evolved from simple time wasters in a waiting room to having console quality adventures in your pocket. The next step is to bring these popular console franchises to mobile.
Halo fans and new Spartans will soon be able to download “Halo: Spartan Assault” on their Windows Phone 8 smartphone, and Verizon Wireless customers will be the first ones able to do so in the U.S.
Journalists got a chance to try the game out at E3 and give their initial thoughts. IGN noted the animations and style gave it an authentic Halo experience, while Polygon praised the controls in their hands-on. And, PC Gamer described the gameplay style as free form, which is one of the reasons why Halo is so popular.
“Halo: Spartan Assault” lets players complete missions through the eyes of Commander Sarah Palmer or Spartan Davis as they battle a relentless alien foe in never-before-played missions in the Halo universe. Xbox 360 owners who play Halo 4 can also earn additional experience points for their Spartan Career by playing through “Halo: Spartan Assault” and acquiring certain weekly achievements.
Smartphones have opened the doors to possibilities that gamers have dreamt about, playing their favorite franchises on a phone. Mobile devices and app stores have also made it easy for non-gamers to access and experience games they may not have thought they wanted to play.
“Halo: Spartan Assault” will be available for $6.99 on the Windows Phone App Store and will be playable on the Nokia Lumia 928, Nokia Lumia 822, Windows Phone 8X by HTC and Samsung ATIV Odyssey from Verizon Wireless.
