The event as a whole seems to have been more well-received from the gamer population at large than previous similar events. It felt less like a big advertisement and more of an actual attempt at acknowledging and celebrating the industry and it's community. Highlights such as Ken & Roberta Williams of Sierra being honored as industry icons gave the night a theme of legacy - showing that today's designers are continuing the work started by such pioneers.

La noche de los premios del juego fue una oportunidad para celebrar la industria este año. El show comenzó con una nota alta con Nintendo. Tenían legendario compositor Koji Kondo al piano, Reggie Fils-Aime en el micro y Shigeru Miyamoto en pantalla. Después de esto, el anfitrión Geoff Keighley apareció y así comenzó la noche de premios, anuncios y trailers de juegos.
El evento parece haber sido bien recibido más de parte de la población gamer en general que eventos similares anteriores. Se sentía menos como un gran anuncio y más como un intento real para reconocer y celebrar la industria y su comunidad. Momentos como Ken y Roberta Williams de Sierra siendo honrados como iconos de la industria dieron la noche un tema de herencia - mostrando que los diseñadores de hoy continúan el labor iniciada por esos pioneros.
